Blythe learning curve

So I got a Blythe for a gift this birthday. I took a box opening video which I've not edited, but posted a bunch of customising-in-progress photo over on instagram, so I thought I'll do an update here as well.

Here's the girl in her stock outfit (minus the apron). She's a Neo Blythe, Dark Rabbit Hole. An RBL+ mold.

And I wanted to customise her so I took her apart, which required more effort than I thought. I also had to go out to buy a new screwdriver because none of the ones at home were small enough. The eye mechanism is scarily difficult to remove. I was super scared of scratching something. :/ Got her out fine though. (Putting her back would be another challenge...)

Her first layer of faceup. I sanded her face matt and carved her nose and lips a bit before the faceup. With just an exacto knife, it was a bit difficult to get anything too deep, so her nostrils aren't as deep as most customisers do them. I did managed to carve some tiny tiny teeth in her mouth, which I'm pretty proud of, although it's not visible from this angle.

And holding the faceplate with the scalp and eyes (without eyelids) to see how she might look like.

This is the latest photo, or basically how she looks like right now, waiting for good enough weather to seal her.

Blythes are pretty fun to play with, if only they're not so hard to unassemble. I also went and bought metallic paints and ordered some blank eye chips to paint her new eyes. I do kind of like the stock eyes, although I think it'll be fun to have some new ones. We'll see. I'm pretty happy with how she looks (faceup skills from bjds are transferable to Blythes after all) but the other blythe specific stuff like putting her back together, changing her eyechips, changing her body (I'm thinking of getting her a Pure Neemo one) etc are still pretty daunting/challenging. I think I'll just slowly get to it.

Hopefully I will get around to editing the video and upload it, haha.

The twins' faceups

I redid Sion and Hew's faceups at the start of December but was lazy to take photos. Haha. Well, I think my linework got a bit better although it is still shaky at some parts. I also decided to make Hew less angsty than before.

Etsy update tomorrow!

Heads up that I will be updating my Etsy with new bjd jewelry tomorrow! First time I'm doing an update at an annouced time, so I hope everything goes well. And I made pieces for Unoa/Slim mini this time, because I finally have a doll in that size, lol.

Urge to buy my Unoa roar a body. Must. Resist.

Also. I've not even sanded off her eyebrows, so I can't do her faceup. But it's good I guess. Or I would be tempted to get her a body. I think Unoas really are addictive! Which is really bad for my wallet.

I removed the faceups of my Mihos. Really want to refresh their faceups. But halfway through removal, I realise my respirator's filters aren't really working well (I've been using the current filters for a while already). I can smell the strange smells when removing faceup. Which I presume is MSC when it reacts with the isopropyl alcohol.

Anyway, I'm trying to order new filters, but I think I'll borrow my bf's so that I can do the twin's faceup soon. They still need more thorough cleaning in the crevices with acetone, but now that I realise I won't be able to start on their faceups until I borrow his respirator, I'm going to just take my time with removal, lol.

Crew updates 2015

Apparently I forgot to post a crew update?

Here's the crew taken around July this year (2015). I realise there's been some additions after this photo was taken, ahhh. Haha.

Compared to the 2014 photo, the July 2015 crew photo has 3 extra dolls: Joe got a body, Freddie was stealing Elly's body and there's Cypher. I realise that this is the only location in my house that is big enough to seat everyone (albeit on the floor), and I used the same backdrop cloth, so I tend to mix up these 2 photos up sometimes. Lol.

And actually right now there's more additions compared to the July photo. First there's Jelly, my 5Stardoll Jadeite:

And in the meantime, I decided to change Elly's wig:

So actually my crew has grown. Mostly the shift towards smaller dolls for the new additions, but I'm having the urge now to repaint the twins because their faceups are really old. I dressed Hew the other day, and I realise how limited my doll wardrobe is. It's not that I don't have quite a bunch of clothes. I do. But I have so many male dolls that it seems like whenever I do change them, I'm kind of just swapping their clothes around, because I like certain items better. Haha. So yeah. I don't know. The big boys need some loveeeeee~

Was missing seeing Gabby's face, so found a photo from a shoot in July to edit. Nothing much. Also I realise I've not really been showing the photos I took here. Will try to rectify that as best as I can, but it's easier to upload most of my edited photos on tumblr or dA. And I have a bunch of phone photos on my instagram as well...
