I've been thinking about making a doll of Danny, the guy who took in Jack (my Zaoll Muse boy). And because whatever drawings I've done of him are in my sketchbooks, and I'm too lazy to flip through so many just to find it, I thought I'll check my deviantart. But apparently I only uploaded 1 drawing of him??! And it's not even a particularly good drawing of him. His face looks a tad too thin/angular. And I've forgotten how many piercings he has, or where they are. Needless to say, it's been a long time since I've drawn him.

Anyway, with the vague impression of what he looks like, I've been considering these dolls:
-Switch Sohwa
-Switch Waseon
-LLT Edria boy (Maybe?)
-Migidoll Cho (But I kind of want to diversify my crew, and not buy so many Migidolls)
-Migidoll Owen??
-Migidoll Ryu??
-Volks Amelia (Used to be my choice for Danny but too pretty??)
-Volks Olivia (again, too pretty, and I already have Freddy, so trying to avoid doubles, also, eyes may be too big)
-Luts Abadon???
-Dollmore Klode Gaspar? (Just saw him on dollmore and he's kind of generic looking, but also kind of fits Danny?)

Rereading Viewfinder makes me want a pretty boy but I'm not sure if that's the only thing I want for Danny. Like, he's lower on the priority list than getting Freddie and the Unoa Lilin Roar their bodies, but I'm also kind of excited with the possibility of a pretty boy. Lol. Don't think I've bought boys in a while now. I realise my recent additions were girls. Except for Cypher who's a small boy (so he doesn't really count).

Also, I've been considering the fact that Danny needs to look pretty proportionate to Jack. Like Jack is a Zaoll Muse boy so he veers on the realistic-ish side of doll sculpts. So that has been my concern with sculpts like Volks Amelia, Olivia and (maybe) Switch Sohwa. And I just missed a Sohwa ordering period even though I was aware of it. It's like I suddenly look at the blank head and think...maybe he's not the best for Danny. My current fave is Waseon, but like, he's still missing something. I'm not sure what. I know Migidoll Cho (or Owen) can pull off the look, but I'm trying to not buy another Migidoll. Like, I want to try something else, but it's tempting to return to tried and tested favourites, haha. Like, Migidoll Ryu can probably also pull off Danny. But yeah. No Migis for now.

The other day (might have been last week), I put Freddie on Caillen's body and placed her beside Jack for a sense of how the sculpt might work out for Danny. But I guess it doesn't, because Freddie looks too sweet for Danny, lol. Ahhhhh. I don't know. I'm sitting around hoping sculpts that would fit more would pop up. Haha. Eyeing Kanadoll but then again I don't really know. Hmm.

Chibi Unoa on Unoa 1.5 body, 5Stardoll Star10 body

I took some photos of my Chibi Unoa faceplates on the bodies I have to see the fit, and thought I'll share them.

 L to R:
1. Chibi Lilin Roar (fresh skin) on Unoa 1.5 body (fairyskin) with Buff headback (WS)
2. Chibi Lilin Roar (fresh skin) on 5stardoll Star10 body (normal skin, pale and looks rather similar to fairyskin) with Buff headback (WS)
3. Chibi Lilin Sleeping mod (fairyskin) on 5stardoll Star10 body (normal skin) with Buff headback (WS)
4. Same as 3 with a wig.

 For some reason the Roar face looks okay on the 30cm 5stardoll body although the Sleeping face does not... In other words, I'm not terribly sure what body my Roar faceplate should get. Pebbles (the modded sleeping faceplate) is already on the Unoa 1.5 body, and she looks good on it. I realise I don't have a photo of that, but she does. Haha. Yeah. But the Roar face, which I've not named, I'm not so sure.

I was going to just go with a Chibi Unoa body at first but not only is it more expensive than other options, I would most likely have to buy a full doll for the body. And I'm afraid I won't want to sell the extra faceplate, haha.

But clothing wise I think yosd/slim minis have more options than the Chibi Unoa, which is my main concern. I'm not as fond of the Roar head on a slim mini body. She looks too tall and not like a young child. So I was thinking of yosd bodies but their bodies are a tad small for her. Even the Star10 body doesn't look like it'll be my best bet. I'm leaning towards Narsha bodies but then I'll have to find someone for the head.

Hybrids for non-male, non-SD sized dolls are hard to do for me, haha. I know a bit more about male SD hybrids lol. (I have so many of them XD)

Pebbles has a body! And I finally named her. This is the chibi sleeping lilin I modded a while back. The wig is pretty much temporary, as is most of her other stuff, but I’m starting to like the slim mini size. I’m seeing her more as a taller versions of my yosd sized ones, and she’s going to be the advisor of Jelly. That’s about as far as I got for her character wise. I just want to dress her in mori/dark mori things.

 Also, people keep telling me how sad she looks, and how she looks like she’s going to cry, and I just think she looks like she has a lot on her mind, and she’s bad at hiding it. And maybe also because I don’t define her by her sadness. If I did that, she’ll get so sad and ungrounded that she’s nothing anymore. And that’s not what I want. She’s much more than that.

I keep thinking of this line/feeling I have with regards to someone I knew:

You thought she was sad and beautiful, too much for this world.
When in fact
She has floated away because she didn’t want to ground herself in anything.

Where clearly "you" refers to me. Haha. But yeah, I don't want to romanticise Pebbles' sadness, nor do I want to make her just sad and beautiful. She's supposed to be wise and thoughtful too, I think. I mean, she is an advisor to Jelly after all.

I realise I am rambling but I have thoughts on her, her sad face, and sadness/ungrounded in reality thinking in general, and I’m not very good at putting them coherently together.

Doll collection thoughts

Lately I've been rethinking my collection. Not that I am going to sell anyone or anything, but just in general.

Firstly, I got myself more into the yosd side of the collection, whereas I was a mostly SD collector previously. So now I have Cypher (26cm), Jelly (30cm) and 2 Unoa faceplates. Oh yeah, I've not mentioned it on the blog but I bought a Unoa Lilin Roar faceplate. Haha. And both Unoa faces are chibi lilins (one is the sleeping face that I modded, the other is the roar/naughty face). So initially I was thinking of getting them Chibi bodies. But the modded one I have is WS so it's hard to find her a body. And recently I've been looking at all the cute MSD clothes on etsy, and I caved.

I'm getting a Unoa 1.5 girl body for her. Deep breath. Haha. So now I will actually have an MSD, a size I never wanted to own, all because I want the small side of my collection to have variety in height. Lol. So yeah, anyway, the lilin roar will get a chibi body, I think, and the modded lilin will get the 1.5girl body.

With that said, the money that went into getting the MSD body for the still nameless girl could have funded 90% of Freddie's body. BUTTTTT, I keep convincing myself it's hard to find a MSD body with a Buff headback (because the normal 1.5 unoa headback won't fit Chibi faceplates), and I decided that the nameless Lilin will get her body before Freddie. (Yeaa, I'm sorry, Freddie. But SD16G bodies are much easier to find).

And, besides a body, the poor nameless girl still has no name, no wig, no clothes (at all, haha, cos I don't own MSDs). So much unknowns! Well, we'll see. I'm very keen on mori clothing for her, but that means I have to spare some money to get her an outfit first.

Also, Freddie is the only one needing a body, but I keep rethinking my SD collection to see if there's anyone I can sell off to make space. I don't remember if I've wrote this before, but I keep coming back to Nat. And for a few times, I've taken him out and placed him back because I decided I still want to keep him. Today was another one of those days. But the good thing about today is, I think I finally found some semblance of a dressing style that I'm happy with him, and would be happy to find more clothing for him in this style.



Sorry for the bad photo which I made weirder with photoshop. Haha. I'm using the old camera. But yeah, the dressing style of tank tops, shorts/skirts and an oversized light jacket with a choker kind of works. I'm especially interested in finding a black ribbon to make him better chokers, or buy one of those 90s grunge necklace/choker things. I think they sell rings with that kind of pattern, so it'll make a good necklace for him.

Anyway, I don't know, we'll see how things go. I'm currently more interested in the non-SDs, haha. But it sucks cos they're strange sizes and I don't have much clothing for them.

Opened up doa today to 2 PMs (private messages) about dolls that have arrived with their owners. One was the BBB Elena I painted, and I'm really glad to see her owner likes her, because I'm always worried that somehow the commission won't turn out to their liking. (It's just a general paranoia I have about commissioned work.) So yeah, I'm glad, and she sent me a photo, so that was cool.

The other was the LLT Roderich head I sold, also with a faceup I've done. The buyer was really happy with him, and that the faceup was gorgeous (he has one of the best faceups I've done, to be honest) and says she'll keep in permanently, which I really hope she would, because that head is pretty cool, although I never got around to bonding with it. Really hope all these dolls get the love from their owners. Haha.

Things like this make me want to do more faceups for more dolls. But the actual process of doing it, especially in the case of commissions, I have a lot of doubts about the faceup I'm doing. I don't know if it's because I'm still inexperienced with commissions, and am generally anxious, or if the idea of it being other people's dolls makes me need to be more cautious with them. I generally like doing faceups on my own dolls, there isn't the pressure of doing anything wrong, because I can always redo it if I don't like it. But commissions are a bit different, I guess. The part I'm most worried about it that I think it looks good, but the owner may not think it suits their dolls, somehow.

Anyway, just some thoughts, I'll go back to doing work now.

Jelly, oh jelly. (I'm so tired now.) Let's just look at photos of Jelly, cos I finished her faceup. :)





Her eyes don't sit well, because they're too big. I need 12mms, I think. And her eyewells are not perfectly casted, because when I painted the eyeliner, I found dips/dents that I had to poke the tip of my brush into, to colour it in paint. Well, it's not really obvious when she was blank, and it's nothng a faceup can't cover. But thought I'll point it out. I'm still overall quite pleased with the quality and overall experience of buying from 5Stardoll, keeping in mind their low price. The only thing I do have an issue with, and which I don't have the ability to change, is how they actually casted the foot with the S hook embedded in it. This means she cannot rotate her feet, or "point her toes". This is a tad annoying if I try to have her standing mostly on one feet with the other bent. And of course when sitting, but there's more of an aesthetic choice than functional issue.

Anyway, I'm really tired from doing faceups and taking photos, going to leave this post short even though I have a bit more to say about Jelly. Next time, I guess!

Jelly's box opening [ 5Stardoll Jadeite Human ]

After about 2 months since I ordered her, my little girl has finally arrived! She came this morning, and I found her box sitting on my table when I woke up. : D (Mum signed for her from the postman).

I really like the Jadeite sculpt when I saw the face from Dybbuk's box opening, and I went on to email 5Stardoll to see if I could get her on a normal human body. I like the praying mantis, but I wanted a girl, haha. 5Stardoll is actually really nice and replies really fast, and I found out I could get her on a Star10 body.

I actually took a while to decide to get her, mainly because I was trying to save enough paypal funds by selling things. I ordered her after I managed to save enough, which is quite fast, given how 5Stardolls are actually quite affordable! She's the price of the normal Star10 doll (150USD). If I had managed to order her 2 weeks earlier, she would have been 20USD cheaper, but seeing how she is already such a good price, I don't really think it's that big a difference. :)

So, here's the box opening of my lovely girl~

Flipped it over. I noticed the dent, which was a bit deep...


And the box. The inner doll box got dented/cut too. Ah well. It's a pity but nothing serious.

She got a card. And a wig, as a gift (:


Haven't open this wig yet, but it looks like a long wig, with bangs, I think?


She came with eyes and putty too. I presume what's in the blue envelope is her certificate, but because it was wax sealed, I didn't open it. Haha.


She doesn't have pillows, just a sort of carrier with a zip.


And here she is! The carrier kept her protected well, and the doll itself was also shrink-wrapped. Haha. First box opening with shrink wrap and not bubblewrap. And her little top is really pretty as well. :>


5Stardoll even bothered to tie a ribbon for ease of removing her head. Which I did use, to put in some eyes.


I took off her top, so I can check for damages. Her lower torso is slightly darker than the upper one. I used a magic eraser on it but it seems to still be there, so I left it. You can see her (: The proportions are much better than I imagined, because I didn't have any photos to base it on, just what the company told me. Haha.


And a closer look. She's actually wearing Nat's eyes, because Nat is now using the spare Mako eyes I ordered from long ago. (I ordered it for him, but didn't think the colour was right. But I went to change his eyes yesterday, so he'll be a bit different for a change.)


Got her standing. She's not the most stable poser, and she's a bit floppy, but fiddle a bit and I got her to stand well enough. I think she might need kips in her shoulders, or a tighter elastic. Haha.


And in pants. I don't have a shirt for her yet.






Here she's with my LTF, who is clearly shorter than she is. 5Stardoll's Star10 line is about 30cm, while the LTF is about 26cm. Also, at this point, I noticed that even though I got her in NS, she looks a lot paler than my LTF...


Grabbed my WS Unoa faceplate to check, and you can see how Jelly (my Jadeite) is closer to the WS than the NS...she is a tad pinker than the Unoa, but overall, mostly white. Apparently, from the replies I got on DoA, this is pretty normal.
5Stardoll has Yellow skin (or NS-Y?) and Pink skin (or NS-P), and I think this is the NS that is the pink one. Someone said the yellow skin might be a closer colour to Fairyland's NS. But you know what this means? It means that once I get the Unoa faceplate a headback, I NEED to try her out on Jelly's body for proportions. The slight difference in colour can probably be easily hidden with more blushing. (Aka if it works out maybe the Unoa faceplate can have a relatively cheap body, haha.)


Oh, and the Jadeite sculpt has a bit of a weird edge in the middle of her face, which you can see as a pronounced bump in her forehead from this angle. Doesn't really show up when she's in a wig, but just something I noticed.
