Opened up doa today to 2 PMs (private messages) about dolls that have arrived with their owners. One was the BBB Elena I painted, and I'm really glad to see her owner likes her, because I'm always worried that somehow the commission won't turn out to their liking. (It's just a general paranoia I have about commissioned work.) So yeah, I'm glad, and she sent me a photo, so that was cool.

The other was the LLT Roderich head I sold, also with a faceup I've done. The buyer was really happy with him, and that the faceup was gorgeous (he has one of the best faceups I've done, to be honest) and says she'll keep in permanently, which I really hope she would, because that head is pretty cool, although I never got around to bonding with it. Really hope all these dolls get the love from their owners. Haha.

Things like this make me want to do more faceups for more dolls. But the actual process of doing it, especially in the case of commissions, I have a lot of doubts about the faceup I'm doing. I don't know if it's because I'm still inexperienced with commissions, and am generally anxious, or if the idea of it being other people's dolls makes me need to be more cautious with them. I generally like doing faceups on my own dolls, there isn't the pressure of doing anything wrong, because I can always redo it if I don't like it. But commissions are a bit different, I guess. The part I'm most worried about it that I think it looks good, but the owner may not think it suits their dolls, somehow.

Anyway, just some thoughts, I'll go back to doing work now.

Jelly, oh jelly. (I'm so tired now.) Let's just look at photos of Jelly, cos I finished her faceup. :)

Her eyes don't sit well, because they're too big. I need 12mms, I think. And her eyewells are not perfectly casted, because when I painted the eyeliner, I found dips/dents that I had to poke the tip of my brush into, to colour it in paint. Well, it's not really obvious when she was blank, and it's nothng a faceup can't cover. But thought I'll point it out. I'm still overall quite pleased with the quality and overall experience of buying from 5Stardoll, keeping in mind their low price. The only thing I do have an issue with, and which I don't have the ability to change, is how they actually casted the foot with the S hook embedded in it. This means she cannot rotate her feet, or "point her toes". This is a tad annoying if I try to have her standing mostly on one feet with the other bent. And of course when sitting, but there's more of an aesthetic choice than functional issue.

Anyway, I'm really tired from doing faceups and taking photos, going to leave this post short even though I have a bit more to say about Jelly. Next time, I guess!

Jelly's box opening [ 5Stardoll Jadeite Human ]

After about 2 months since I ordered her, my little girl has finally arrived! She came this morning, and I found her box sitting on my table when I woke up. : D (Mum signed for her from the postman).

I really like the Jadeite sculpt when I saw the face from Dybbuk's box opening, and I went on to email 5Stardoll to see if I could get her on a normal human body. I like the praying mantis, but I wanted a girl, haha. 5Stardoll is actually really nice and replies really fast, and I found out I could get her on a Star10 body.

I actually took a while to decide to get her, mainly because I was trying to save enough paypal funds by selling things. I ordered her after I managed to save enough, which is quite fast, given how 5Stardolls are actually quite affordable! She's the price of the normal Star10 doll (150USD). If I had managed to order her 2 weeks earlier, she would have been 20USD cheaper, but seeing how she is already such a good price, I don't really think it's that big a difference. :)

So, here's the box opening of my lovely girl~

The box she came in.

Flipped it over. I noticed the dent, which was a bit deep...

And the box. The inner doll box got dented/cut too. Ah well. It's a pity but nothing serious.

A closeup of the dent/cut. That aside, the box is quite nice and simple :>

And you probably can't see it while it's in the box, but the box is shrink-wrapped.

Removed the shrink wrap.

She got a card. And a wig, as a gift (:

Haven't open this wig yet, but it looks like a long wig, with bangs, I think?

She came with eyes and putty too. I presume what's in the blue envelope is her certificate, but because it was wax sealed, I didn't open it. Haha.

She doesn't have pillows, just a sort of carrier with a zip.

And here she is! The carrier kept her protected well, and the doll itself was also shrink-wrapped. Haha. First box opening with shrink wrap and not bubblewrap. And her little top is really pretty as well. :>

5Stardoll even bothered to tie a ribbon for ease of removing her head. Which I did use, to put in some eyes.

I took off her top, so I can check for damages. Her lower torso is slightly darker than the upper one. I used a magic eraser on it but it seems to still be there, so I left it. You can see her (: The proportions are much better than I imagined, because I didn't have any photos to base it on, just what the company told me. Haha.

And a closer look. She's actually wearing Nat's eyes, because Nat is now using the spare Mako eyes I ordered from long ago. (I ordered it for him, but didn't think the colour was right. But I went to change his eyes yesterday, so he'll be a bit different for a change.)

Got her standing. She's not the most stable poser, and she's a bit floppy, but fiddle a bit and I got her to stand well enough. I think she might need kips in her shoulders, or a tighter elastic. Haha.

And in pants. I don't have a shirt for her yet.

Here she's with my LTF, who is clearly shorter than she is. 5Stardoll's Star10 line is about 30cm, while the LTF is about 26cm. Also, at this point, I noticed that even though I got her in NS, she looks a lot paler than my LTF...

Grabbed my WS Unoa faceplate to check, and you can see how Jelly (my Jadeite) is closer to the WS than the NS...she is a tad pinker than the Unoa, but overall, mostly white. Apparently, from the replies I got on DoA, this is pretty normal.
5Stardoll has Yellow skin (or NS-Y?) and Pink skin (or NS-P), and I think this is the NS that is the pink one. Someone said the yellow skin might be a closer colour to Fairyland's NS. But you know what this means? It means that once I get the Unoa faceplate a headback, I NEED to try her out on Jelly's body for proportions. The slight difference in colour can probably be easily hidden with more blushing. (Aka if it works out maybe the Unoa faceplate can have a relatively cheap body, haha.)

Oh, and the Jadeite sculpt has a bit of a weird edge in the middle of her face, which you can see as a pronounced bump in her forehead from this angle. Doesn't really show up when she's in a wig, but just something I noticed.

And Jelly says bye, thank you for looking!

Get Ready With Me | Unoa Lilin mod

She is still currently unnamed, but I thought I'll get some photos of her, to get an idea of how her faceup looks when she's wigged and clothed.

Here's the video of me dressing her:

And the photos:

I really like this ^ She looks so sad though, haha. But really pretty.

I also tried to get one of her to make her look like she's sleeping, but I don't think it worked out that well. :/ And I put another necklace on her, because it's more shiny, but it didn't really work with the outfit as well as the first one did. Haha.
 photo DSC_3214editedresized_zpstfwmbxs9.jpg
And here's a photo of her odd proportions. The head is much too big for the body, especially without the wig to hide it. She has no neck to speak of, haha.
 photo DSC_3217editedresized_zpsukyzifo1.jpg

To be honest, she looks 90% alright in real life (aka 3D) but she is obviously off in photos, unless concealed by certain angles. Poor thing is going to be a faceplate for a long time, but at least I can still take some photos of her from time to time. She's unnamed because I fear that once I give her a name, I'll want to get her a body, and that isn't my priority now.
Merrydollround Mousse is really cute, and a nice size for a bjd for a SD sized bjd. Haha. Well. Too bad I don't have money or space or any real justification to buy her. Likewise for the Unoa Chibi Lilin default in fresh skin. And it's harder for the Lilin because I keep seeing unoalchemy's preorders...

I think now that I'm kind of broke (in terms of doll funds), and lacking space, I'm starting to eye every doll (and doll related) purchases very carefully. It is a good thing, in a way, but it still not easy to just sit through the want. Haha. Well, it is a want, and I hope this means I will spend my funds more wisely. Sometimes I impulsely want and buy things, and it's not a good thing given how I don't like to sell dolls. To date, the only resin things I've sold are, hands, hands, Dennis's old body (because I got him a new one first), the LLT Roderich head. So many wants, quite a few buys, and little dolls sold off means I'm pretty much running out of space, if I haven't already.

To be honest, I think it's just an issue of poor management of short time wants and long term wants. For example, I've been wanting to save for a body for Freddie, but during that time, I've bought other doll bodies (somewhat justified since they were floating heads longer), Cypher (somewhat justified, I wanted a tiny to take to Korea with me and SDs wouldn't have worked), Elly (this is an impulse buy), and Jelly (the new doll I'm waiting for). Oh, and the Unoa plate I modded. Note to self: I need to remind myself that there's things I've been wanting to get for longer than my sudden impulse purchases, and just because the impulse purchases might be more attractive now (buying a body is never as fun as buying a head. But oh, the head then needs a body. Etc), doesn't mean it's a good idea.

So, to put things into perspective, here's some doll priorites, in order of importance:
1. Freddie's body
2. Jelly's eyes and some outfits
2.5 Clothes for Elly, Joe etc
3. Alfie (Zaoll Luv? May need to rethink this)
4. Unoa chibi Lilin default, or with roar face (should rethink how much I want her, she has no character)

And mostly for my own reference -

I think 2.5 might be a bit brief, but here's some dolls I think I can do more with:
1. Hew - needs a new faceup, less angsty now that he's older, maybe a new haircut
2. Nat - needs more clothes that either suit his colourful self, or revamp to a more mature version...leaning towards some sort of revamp
3. Tiyana - a new wig, that stays better
4. Kristolf - clothes. Though he can wait a bit more, til I buy Alfie, so less urgent
5. Joe - more beach clothes. And maybe wig??
6. Elly - character needs to be further explored. Then after that, clothes, and maybe wig
7. Freddie - needs a body. Most important part is the body.
8. Caillen - mostly alright, maybe find him some jeans that fit better
9. Sion - maybe just a neater faceup lol, but not urgent or necessary

Dolls that are mostly alright:
1. Dennis
2. Gabby
3. Zeke
4. Cypher
5. Jack

Zeke has a thing about personal space. He doesn't like human contact much. It's not so much that he doesn't want or need friends, but that he doesn't know how to go about having friends. It's tiresome and stressful. Instead, he records what he might tell a friend onto his blog. His reader becomes his friends in a way. But they will never get close enough to pop his personal bubble.

I think Zeke is asocial, and high introverted, haha. Also, I took a full body photo of him, because I really like how he looks in this outfit. :D

 photo DSC_3053editedresized_zpssmraauvy.jpg

I can go on and on, but let's call his general clothes taste, the "L" look (the Death Note character L). Haha. I like how this top hangs off him. Tried it on Caillen and it was just mehhh. But as I expected, Zeke fits it really well. As did the baggy jeans. His body also tends to slouch a lot when posing, and has a loose limbed look, which works out really well with the character. I picked it because I liked how thin it was for the height and shoulder width, and he still has a sufficiently thick neck, but is otherwise nice and lanky. The way he ends up posing slack-limbed is just a bonus, but one that makes me really happy with him everytime I pick him up. :>

I think there's some dolls like that. Dolls that I enjoy the experience of playing with as much as the photos after. Tiyana is the opposite of that. She tends to look better in photos but she is a pain to work with, haha. Especially her wig. But Zeke is a dream. The other doll I really like on a whole is Dennis, but he's always been a bias, I think. Zeke is an unexpected bias, especially in how I really like him as a Leeke Khal compared to the Esthy Peroth head I originally thought would be the sculpt for him. (My Peroth went through a lot of characters, from Caillen, to Benja, to now Joe). I think it was a good thing I bought the Khal first, because if I had my Peroth first, I might never have gotten him, and look at how well he worked out for Zeke's character?

On a side note, I would like to buy him another pair of headphones, with more silver bits, because this pair disappears into his hair since they're both so dark. And also, the Akagi body is really nicely sculpted, in general, for what I imagined for Zeke. But his toes are so weird. Lol. And my dolls don't wear shoes much. Or at least, Zeke doesn't really. Well, so long I like the rest of it, haha.
